Since routine maintenance extends the life of any vehicle and we want you to get the most out of your SUV, we'll also dive into everything you need to know about keeping your Journey ready to go. So, what are you waiting for? Let's get started!
Dodge turned heads when they debuted their new midsize crossover SUV, the Journey, at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 2007. Designed to give drivers the best of both worlds, Dodge set the Journey lower to the ground like a sedan but gave it the body and spaciousness of an SUV. When the first generation Journey was finally made available to the public in 2009, drivers couldn't wait to get behind the wheel. This original design has aged well, and despite updates to the looks, features, and technology, the basic chassis remains unchanged.
The first-generation Journey was available in three trims - the SE, SXT, and R/T - that offered a progressive suite of safety and technology features. The model came standard with theater seating for five with the option to upgrade to flexible seating with a 50/50 split third-row seat that increased the seating options for up to seven. The configurable interior was a huge selling point, as was the plentiful storage space made possible by Dodge's "Flip 'N Stow" in-seat storage system that added a hidden storage compartment under the front passenger seat. On the five-passenger model, additional storage was available under the folding rear floor.
Dodge was determined to make the Journey even better and did exactly that with the debut of the redesigned Journey in 2011. The Journey saw huge improvements to its interior with an updated and sleeker layout beginning with a modernized instrument panel with a full-color display. Dodge also added the all-new Uconnect media center that was housed on a center touchscreen display and took the Journey's connectivity to the next level.
Dodge improved the Journey's power and performance by making a few tweaks under the hood. While Dodge kept the Journey's original 2.4-liter engine as the standard powertrain on its base model, it gave drivers a second, more powerful choice with the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 that delivered 283 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Fortunately, the improvements didn't stop there as Dodge re-engineered the suspension, outfitted the model with better quality tires, and redesigned the steering to improve its responsiveness and finetune the handling.
Dodge has continued to make improvements to the Journey, such as adding new exterior and interior trim options in 2014. For the 2020 model year, the Journey lineup has been streamlined to two trim options - the SE and the Crossroad - both of which come standard with a 2.4-liter engine that delivers 173 horsepower and 166 lb-ft of torque. Other improvements to the 2020 model include standard features like Rear Park Assist as well as the addition of a sunroof to the Crossroad model. Both the SE and Crossroad trims include an optional equipment group that takes the Uconnect system to the next level with features like voice command, Bluetooth connectivity, SiriusXM satellite radio, navigation, a premium sound system, and more.
While the early models of the Journey gave drivers a choice between seating for five or seven, the 2020 Journey comes standard with three-row seating for seven passengers. Dodge has also made improvements to the model's appearance with the addition of LED taillamps, alloy wheels, and Dodge's signature front grille. The latest model also features the most advanced safety and security technology, including electronic stability control, brake assist, electronic roll mitigation, trailer sway control, and traction control.
