80 Years of Jeep History
The Jeep brand has been around for quite some time and can trace its roots back to the founding of the Overland Automobile Company in 1903. However, the company really took off during World War II, with the introduction of the iconic Willys Jeep in 1941. This versatile military model was so practical that the company decided to bring it to the civilian market after the war was won.
The civilian history of Jeep began in 1945 with the unveiling of the CJ models. Produced until 1985, versions of this "flat fender" model were manufactured for the average person. While these adventurous vehicles were popular, it wasn't until 1963 and the introduction of the Jeep Wagoneer and Jeep Gladiator that the company expanded beyond its wartime roots. One might even argue that these early Jeeps built the baseline for the current fleet.
During the 1980s, the Jeep lineup really began to expand. The Cherokee, Wrangler, and Comanche were dominating the streets and changing the way people went on adventures. The introduction of the Jeep Wrangler in 1987 was groundbreaking. As a completely customizable SUV, it gained rapid popularity. Folks loved that the doors, roof, and windshield could be removed, and the number of accessories that could be installed was vast. In the 2000s, the current style of Jeep models began to take shape. That decade saw the introduction of the first four-door Wrangler Unlimited as well as the smaller Compass. The long-running Cherokee was also renamed the Liberty before switching back to its original title for the latest generation. Other models, including the Commander and the Patriot, came and went with only a few short years of production under their metaphorical belts. Joining the Future With the 4xe Hybrid
With eight decades of experience, the new direction that Jeep is heading in contains some promising hybrid models. The push to create more environmentally-friendly vehicles has been sweeping the auto industry. It's no longer enough just to get good gas mileage. And if you want to completely avoid the gas station, it has a range of about 21 miles in Electric mode, perfect for running errands nearby.

There is also an available 3.0L EcoDiesel V6 engine that delivers up to 260 hp and up to 442 lb-ft of torque for incredible performance. Either one can come with an 8-speed automatic transmission, though the 3.6L V6 engine is available with a 6-speed manual transmission for total control.
This is a true Jeep with excellent off-road performance. When properly configured, the 2021 Gladiator has a ground clearance of more than 11 inches, with an approach angle of 44 degrees, breakover angle of 20 degrees, and departure angle of more than 25 degrees. It also has up to 31 inches of water fording capability, so you can take this truck pretty much anywhere.
Since it is a pickup, you would expect the 2021 Jeep Gladiator to have impressive towing and payload capacities, and it does not disappoint.
