Ram’s Intriguing History

Ram trucks first showed up in 1981. After Dodge spent over 64 years making trucks, they finally decided to implement their classic ram hood ornament by naming an entire model after Ram. The new Dodge Ram truck popped up in an area where air conditioning was viewed the same as wireless device charging is now. In other words, your base-level Dodge Ram models didn’t include A/C. That privilege was only reserved for higher trims.

Back during the Ram’s first generation, things looked a lot different. For example, the Ram’s early terminology was much different. If you had a “Power Ram,” that meant you owned a four-wheel drive, whereas a two-wheel drive Ram truck was just called a “Ram.” The first generation didn’t do so hot, but the second generation’s redesign helped it out a lot.

Years passed by, and while the Dodge Ram thrived in the 1990s, its streak reached a rough patch. By the 2000s, economic fluctuations affected the brand, and eventually, Dodge and Ram reached the end of their journey together. In 2009, Ram became its own brand. It sounds sad, but the truth is that the Ram began thriving better than ever after the big breakup.

Now that Ram was able to solely focus on trucks and trucks alone, improving its performance by a landslide. Now, it is hard to beat the power, capability, and style that you can get with any Ram truck. Overall, it is apparent that the Ram has been widely successful throughout the years and will continue to be.

Quick Look at Your Ram Options

No matter what model year you choose, your used Ram will come in either 1500, 2500, or 3500 configurations. In short, you’re choosing from half-ton, three-quarter-ton, and one-ton models. The half-ton Ram is the most popular for average drivers. It’s still tow-capable, but it’s not going to haul giant loads like loaded livestock trailers. Fishers and ATV off-roaders will be satisfied with the Ram 1500’s towing capacity. It’s strong enough to handle a boat or a side-by-side.

The Ram’s three-quarter-ton option is the Ram 2500. This is where we start getting into work truck territory. While the towing capacity increases with each model year, any used Ram 2500 will be able to haul heavy equipment and loaded livestock trailers. But if you really want to show off your towing prowess, take it a step further with the one-ton Ram 3500 option.

While standard towing capacities are similar between the 2500 and the 3500 Ram, pick a diesel engine with the proper towing gear to really haul some weight. For an idea of what we mean here, a 2019 Ram 3500 Laramie with a 6.7-liter diesel engine turbo engine and the proper configuration can pull up to 35,100 pounds. It’s not very likely that you’ll need to tow that much, but hey, sometimes farm equipment can get heavy pretty fast. For example, commercial tractors alone can weigh over 10,000 pounds. If you’re looking for a true worker truck, the 3500 is the way to go.

How to Get Here From Richmond

There are several ways to get here from Richmond, but the most common route is to take I-75. You will want to get to I-75 N/I-64 W from wherever is most convenient for you, but we recommend taking Newton Pike to get to I-75 N. Then simply stay on I-75 N until you reach Exit 125. Take the exit, then turn left onto Paris Pike. Then, you'll want to turn right at the Wendy's onto Cherry Blossom Way, and you will find us just down the road on your right.
