Ram 2500 Limited Longhorn

The Ram 2500 Limited Longhorn offers two different bed sizes in the 4×2 Crew Cab setup. In the 4×4 drivetrain, you get two Crew Cab bed sizes and one Mega Cab option.

     Drivetrain/Cab/Bed Towing Capacity Payload Capacity
4×2 Crew Cab with 8-foot bed 14,190 pounds 3,170 pounds
     4×2 Crew Cab with 6-foot, 4-inch bed 14,370 pounds 3,350 pounds

Ram 2500 Limited

The Ram 2500 Limited trim comes in a 4×2 Crew Cab with two bed sizes and a 4×4 Crew Cab with different box sizes. In addition, you have the Mega Cab option on the 4×4 drivetrain.

     Drivetrain/Cab/Bed Towing Capacity Payload Capacity
4×2 Crew Cab with 8-foot bed 14,120 pounds 3,100 pounds
     4×2 Crew Cab with 6-foot, 4-inch bed 14,130 pounds 3,110 pounds
4×4 Crew Cab with 8-foot bed 13,810 pounds 2,780 pounds
     4×4 Crew Cab with 6-foot, 4-inch bed 13,850 pounds 2,820 pounds
     4×4 Mega Cab with 6-foot, 4-inch bed 13,610 pounds 2,590 pounds

As these charts clearly show, your 4×2 Crew Cab options with shorter beds deliver higher towing and payload capacities. Many people mistakenly believe a 4×4 powertrain with a larger cab and bed would naturally tow and haul more.

Unfortunately, your truck has a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) which determines how much weight you can have in total between the truck and trailer. So, when you increase your cab and bed size and add 4×4 components to the drivetrain, these items also add more weight to the truck. This added weight leaves less available capacity for towing and hauling, thus lowering your vehicle’s ratings.

Additional Ways To Increase Towing Capacity

Every Ram 2500 comes standard with a 64-liter HEMI V-8 engine with an impressive 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque. In addition, the factory-installed rear-axle crossmember enables you to install an available Fifth-Wheel or Gooseneck Prep Package. With these prep packages, your tow rating soars to 17,540 pounds.

You can also opt for the 6.4-liter Cummins turbo-diesel inline six-cylinder engine that puts out 370 horsepower and 850 pound-feet of torque. This engine, paired with the prep package, allows you to tow up to 20,000 pounds.

Intelligent Towing Systems

Available towing features on your Ram 2500 include the Trailer 360-Degree Surround View Camera, a Trailer Hitch Light, and a Trailer Reverse Steering Control system. The camera system provides a view around your trailer to help you navigate tight quarters. Using the Trailer Hitch Light allows you to see your hitch clearly, day or night. Backing up your trailer has never been easier with the Trailer Reverse Steering Control system. You turn the control dial in the direction you want your trailer to go, and the system handles the steering.

Other helpful systems include the Trailer Tire Pressure Monitoring System which remembers four trailers with 12 tires per trailer. In addition, a Trailer Sway Control system detects when your trailer starts to sway and adjusts braking and engine torque to bring your truck and trailer back in sync.
